The project focuses on mechanical metamaterials suitable for energy-intensive applications at high temperatures. Specific applications are motivated by the needs of the foundry industry and the demand for new materials in the energy sector, including future materials for fourth-generation nuclear reactors. The research objective of the project, which is the development of a multiscale methodology for designing mechanical metamaterials for components exposed to extreme thermal stress, is unique even in the context of global science. It is also based on the unique expertise of individual consortium members and builds on their long-term research strategies.
